Forget Game of Thrones: the annual Royal Ascot race is coming. As we said here, this prestigious event assembles A-list guests, horse race fanatics, good music, and fine dining. But who are we fooling here? The real head-turning has less to do with race horsing and more to do with fabric and hats.
The Royal Ascot fashion scene is an incredibly fancy dress code that unites modest outfits with hints of “fashionista”.

Light Colours
Starting the list with a non-traditional outfit is Kate Garraway, with a light-coloured pantsuit and bow-tied shirt. The hanging jacket is the fashion element that pulls together the entire look.
Abandoning the matchy-matchy approach, Prince Beatrice wore a nude shoe with a cream clutch bag, modernising the stunning structure of her lace baby blue dress.
Her Majesty was dazzling in a light blue coat dress with a floral pink layer underneath, which matched perfectly with the pink flowers on her hat.
The Countess of Wessex chose a ruffled lilac skit with a matching belt. The spotlight element definitely was the gorgeous feathery hat in combination with the entire colour scheme.
Patterns
An oriental embroidered flowered pattern was the choice for the Made in Chelsea reality star, Georgia Toffolo. The wicker bag made a modern fashion statement alongside the summery outfit.
With a green two-piece look, the Queen sported an iconic accessory: a maple diamond broach.
Another “Queen” (on screen at least), Helen Mirren was a vision in a floral midi-dress with a discreet dark backdrop and rose flowers print, which made an elegant arrangement with the pastel pink hat.
A black polka dots dress paired with black gloves and a pearl necklace made Doina Ciobanu’s look a sweet 50s-esque look.
Solid Colours
Bright solid colours also made an appearance at the Royal Ascot fashion scene. Victoria Pendleton, the former Olympic cyclist, picked a midi-length orange lace dress and nude strap heels to match the hat.
Pretty in pink, Her Majesty chose a tweed coat dress to match the adorable headpiece with her trusty black loafers and handbag.
Lady Mary, aka Michelle Dockery, gave us Downton Abbey glamour and a colorimetry lesson with gorgeous complementary colours with her emerald green long sleeve dress and magenta hat.
Princess Anne with a delightful sky blue lace dress, navy blue gloves, and a necklace with a golden pendant showed us that you can choose one colour and still be marvellous.
Black & White
Black and white doesn’t have to be boring. Just take a look at Rachel Shenton with a stunning long sleeve and full-length dress with white polka dots. The orange-red lipstick was a beautiful pop of colour to add to the outfit.
Princess Beatrice played with textures with a monochrome dress and a classic saucer hat.
With a beautiful embossed look, The Duchess of Sussex was a show stopper in a white asymmetric dress and black accessories. The makeup matches a subtle style of the newly-royal mother of a baby boy.
Alexandra Burke was a total beauty with a peplum shirt and wide pantsuit. The black disc shape hat and shoes made room for the entire outfit to shine.
