There’s something super romantic about a couple that has known each other for over a decade. For Charlie and Luke, their love story didn’t begin with any grand gestures, but rather a simple cup of tea after a house party, while living in Bournemouth and just about to go to university. Fourteen years later and after a proposal that broke traditional rules they said “I do” in the heart of East London.

Set against the weathered brick interior and rustic aesthetic of the Clapton Country Club, their day was a masterclass in effortless wedding aesthetics – palazzo trousers, vibrant florals, and a ceremony that put love and friendship at the front of it all.
The Proposal – A Year in the Making
In a twist on tradition, it wasn’t Luke who popped the question – it was Charlie! “Luke would have asked me in a heartbeat, but I wasn’t ready” she explains. “I’d always said I’d let him know if I ever changed my mind…so I did and I asked him to marry me!”

The ring travelled across the globe – from the top of Mount Vesuvius, all the way around Florence and even to the Namsan Mountain in South Korea – but each time it made its way home with Charlie. “Luke has always loved climbing mountains, so I had a grand plan to propose on top of one. The problem was, I forgot that I would also need to be on top of those mountains to propose!”
In the end, the moment happened exactly where it should: at home on Christmas day, in matching pyjamas.
The Wedding Venue – Industrial Heritage Meets Art Deco Charm

One of East London’s most sought-after wedding venues, the Clapton Country Club isn’t your usual country club setting. Instead, it offers a blend of history and modern luxury to create the perfect backdrop for weddings that feel cool and effortless.

Housed in a former tram shed, the venue features original brickwork and exposed steel beams that create a beautiful backdrop for wedding photography. Couples love this venue for its cool atmosphere, incredible sustainable food, and the way it transitions from a romantic ceremony space to a vibrant party floor.

“The vibes there are chic, vintage and industrial” Charlie explains. The space’s raw, industrial aesthetic provided the perfect contrast to the pops of vivid orange in the florals provided by Greta in Flowers. The result was a wedding that felt like a curated gallery – cool, effortless, and steeped in character.
The Art of the Glow: The Izabella Bordignon Experience

When it came to her bridal beauty, Charlie didn’t have to look far for inspiration. Having been a bridesmaid for her best friend, Camilla, she had experienced the Izabella Bordignon team in action before. She knew that for her own day, she wanted the same blend of calm and luxury.
“Working with Izabella and the team was honestly one of the best parts of the wedding – and that’s saying something because we loved every second of our day!”

For Charlie, the beauty process was all about elevation rather than transformation. As someone who rarely wears makeup, the fear of feeling overdone was real. She wanted a team who understood how to elevate natural beauty rather than mask it.

“Having someone so knowledgeable and as lovely as Silvia was so important for feeling special” she says. “And the standout was Izabella herself. She is incredibly talented; no matter what we asked for, she could create it. Her calm presence was perfect, and we always felt we were in safe hands!”

The final look was a masterful nod to the 1920s – a chic, structural updo to compliment her high-neck beaded Catherine Dean top and palazzo trousers. The make-up was fresh, radiant and authentic to help capture a look as timeless as the walls surrounding them.
A Walk to Remember
In a move that perfectly encapsulated their partnership, Charlie and Luke chose to walk down the aisle together. “We’ve been together so long, it only felt right to share that moment”, Charlie reflects.

But the walk down the aisle was more about just the two of them, it was a celebration of their inner circle that have supported them for over a decade.
“My most memorable moment was standing with all our bridesmaids and groomspeople, waiting to go in. Watching them all lead the way before we turned the corner, holding hands was incredible. Seeing a room full of colour and hearing the crowd cheer while Ray LaMontagne played – well, I can’t really describe what that felt like but it’s one of my favourite memories!”

The day wasn’t without its laughs, thanks to the wedding party’s involvement. Charlie’s dad, in a moment of pure Dad energy, was so proud of himself for not losing the rings that, when it came to opening them, he opened the box upside down, sending them flying! “Thankfully, they were secured very quickly!” Charlie laughs.

The Honeymoon – A Slice of Luxury in Paros and Naxos
The celebration didn’t end when the music stopped in East London. On Monday, riding the high from the wedding festivities, the newlyweds flew straight out to the Greek islands of Paros and Naxos for a couple of sun-drenched weeks of drinking fabulous wine and insanely good food. The ultimate way to decompress and celebrate the new chapter of their lives as husband and wife.
Words of Wisdom

When asked for advice for future brides, Charlie’s advice is simple: Do things your own way.
“We were very careful to only pick traditions we really wanted. We shared everything – our outfits, our music, our mood boards – with everyone before the big day and that only built the excitement rather than ruining the surprise.”
